Asianux partners plan Asian Linux joint venture

The three Asian Linux vendors behind the Asianux joint development project are planning to set up a joint venture to drive its expansion, according to reports.

Deputy president of Red Flag Software Co Ltd, Zhao Xiaoliang, told China Daily that along with Japan’s Miracle Linux Corp and Korea’s Haansoft Inc, the company is planning “an Asianux company” in an attempt to drive adoption of Asianux into the south Asian market.

Asianux was established in January 2004 by Beijing, China-based Red Flag and Tokyo, Japan-based Miracle Linux, with Seoul, South Korea-based Haansoft joining in October 2004 to jointly develop Asianux as the core platform for their Linux distributions.

Firms Develop ‘Asian’ Linux

The development firms announced Asianux 2.0′s launch schedule at LinuxWorld earlier this month. They also said the technology has already been selected for a large Linux-based project — supporting the National Education Information System (NEIS) — in Korea.

Japanese, Chinese and South Korean firms have jointly developed an Asian version of the Linux operating system, and are preparing to unveil the Chinese and Korean versions in Beijing on Thursday.

The new software, Asianux 2.0, was developed by Miracle Linux Corp., which is partly owned by Oracle Japan and NEC; Red Flag Software, a software developer affiliated with the Chinese government; and South Korean firm Haansoft.

Asian Linux distro is ahead of schedule

A standard Asian Linux distribution being developed by an alliance of Chinese, Japanese and Korean software vendors is now due for release in July

Asian software vendors are on track to release Asianux 2.0, an Asian Linux distribution, two months ahead of schedule.

The standard distribution is being developed by an alliance between China’s Red Flag Software, Japan’s Miracle Linux and Korean software company HaanSoft. Each of the vendors plans to package Asianux 2.0 and sell it under their individual brand names.

The standard was initially planned for September 2005, but will now be released in July 2005, a HaanSoft spokesperson told ZDNet UK on Monday.

Korean software maker joins Asian Linux group

South Korean software company Haansoft has joined an alliance to create a version of Linux for Asian markets, the company said Monday. The software, called Asianux, has been under development by Red Flag Software in China and Miracle Linux in Japan.
